Wisdom teeth extractions

A wisdom tooth, in humans, is any of the usually four third molars. Wisdom teeth usually appear between the ages of 17 and 25. Most adults have four wisdom teeth, but it is possible to have more, in which case they are called supernumerary teeth.

Wisdom teeth commonly cause damage to surrounding teeth or gums.

Wisdom teeth are often impacted or do not properly enter the oral cavity.

They are often extracted when this occurs.

Dr. Maxwell takes great pride in the procedure he uses to extract wisdom teeth.

Periodontal Surgery

If you're diagnosed with periodontal disease, Dr. Maxwell may recommend periodontal laser surgery. Periodontal surgery is necessary when it is determined that the tissue around your teeth is unhealthy and cannot be maintained with non-surgical treatment. The following are the four types of surgical treatments most commonly prescribed:

  • Laser Pocket and Bacterial Reduction Procedures
  • Laser Assisted Regenerative Procedures
  • Crown Lengthening for ideal crown and bridge placement
  • Soft Tissue Grafts

Bone Grafting

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that allows for your periodontal tissues to regenerate missing bone in order to repair bone defects that are contributing to periodontal infection and disease.

Bone grafting is also a great way to preserve bone and periodontal tissues following an extraction; especially, when an implant is planned to replace the missing tooth.

There are a number of bone graft options available for patients who need to reverse jaw bone loss in preparation for dental implants.

Crown Lengthening

Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure to expose a ideal amount of tooth structure for the purpose of subsequently restoring the tooth with crown and bridge restorations. This is accomplished by using a laser and traditional instrumentation to sculpt the periodontal tissues around a tooth to the appropriate levels to ensure optimal tissue health and comfort. After temporarily displacing the soft tissue, instrumentation is used to predictably remove a given height of alveolar bone from the circumference of the tooth or teeth that are planned for restorations. With the assistance of the laser, patients find that they heal quickly following this procedure due to the healing induction and stimulation of the healthy periodontal regenerating cells within their own natural tissues.
